The Latest: Alderman responds to search-warrant reports
CHICAGO (AP) – The Latest on federal agents executing search warrants at the City Hall office of a powerful Chicago alderman (all times local):
A powerful Chicago alderman has sought to strike an upbeat tone after reports federal agents executed search warrants at his City Hall office.
An unidentified law enforcement source told the Chicago Tribune that agents arrived at Ed Burke’s office Thursday morning. Similar activity occurred at his ward office on the city’s Southwest Side.
The 74-year-old Democrat issued a statement saying investigators had requested information from his offices in previous decades. He said he was “completely confident that … nothing will be found amiss in this instance either.”
The U.S. attorney’s office and the local FBI said agents executed “search warrants at multiple locations” in Chicago. But they declined to provide details.
Burke is also a partner in a law office specializing in property-tax appeals. Its clients have included the Chicago tower that bears President Donald Trump’s name.
