43 cows killed, several people displaced in barn fires
BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) – Two separate barn fires in Vermont killed 43 cows and displaced several people living in a home.
The Caledonian Record reports the first fire happened Friday afternoon at a farm in Holland. Fire Chief Craig Ellam says all of the milking cows were killed and 25 to 30 young cattle were rescued. He says some of the cattle may have to be put down if their burns are too severe.
No people were injured. Ellam believes the fire could have been sparked by an electrical problem.
WCAX reports the second fire tore through a Morrisville barn Monday morning. Authorities say the flames spread to a nearby apartment where six or seven people lived.
No injuries were reported, but the barn was destroyed.
An investigation is ongoing.
